Buddy Guy
The most flamboyant next-generation inheritor of the Chicago urban electric
blues style. Buddy began picking blues in the eclectic musical gumbo of his
native Louisiana, but his style was formed for real after moving to Chicago
in 1957, where he sat at the feet of Muddy Waters, B B King and Guitar
Slim, then joined them on stage. Wholehearted endorsements from Jimi
Hendrix and Eric Clapton (in a little payback) helped break him with the
rock audience in the 1960s. A born showman, he opened his own blues club in
Chicago in 1989, and remains one of the music's most exciting live
performers.
Born: 1936, in Lettsworth, Lousiana.
