Legal Battle


City of Edinburgh Council have been carrying out a vendetta against me over a long standing Poll Tax dispute. Despite my attempts to pay the bill the Council have continued to make settlement all but impossible. They have given me false assurances of co-operation while I remortgage my home, resulting in two re-mortgages falling through at the last minute. They now claim not to have documents which they had two years ago. As late as February 2004 I have been visited by Sheriff's Officers and hit with more full charges. After settling another 'debt' I was told (though not in writing) that there would be court costs, I had to pay another £450 for which I have received no paperwork or receipt.

The up-shot is that I have been almost forced out of business - I lost income for six months and I have been forced to pay approximately twice the true debt.

All in all the Council's actions and their consequences have cost me well over £60,000 - over a disputed debt in the region of £8,000
