Miles Davis
Miles always liked to cultivate the Prince of Darkness image that hung
around him, and he had an aura which no other jazzman has possessed with
quite that level of conviction. Beyond cool, beyond hip, the trumpeter
faced the world with a kind of ultimate, take it or leave it defiance which
is the stuff of legend. A catalyst capable of pushing others to new heights
-- a true if unconventional band-leader in the full sense of the words --
as well as a great musician, Miles was one of a kind, and stood at the
epicentre of modern jazz developments for five decades, from bebop to
hip-bop. Who else could claim that?
Born: 1926, in Alton, Illinois.
Died: 1991.

On of the few moments during Miles' 1990 appearance in Glasgow when we saw more than
the back of his jacket. I think he was shy.... If you don't know about Miles Davis buy all his albums today
