bulletSun Ra / Herman "Sonny" Blount (born May 22, 1914 - died May 30,  1993)

Although he first arrived on this planet in Alabama, it is well known that Sun Ra hailed from further afield. Saturn. From his early days playing piano with Fletcher Henderson's Orchestra, through his hard bop Chicago days he was developing a reputation as musician, arranger and showman. His bands from the sixties on were ever more avant garde, combining historic jazz styles with free improvisation. Innovative, challenging, great fun and unique.
