Emmylou Harris & Daniel Lanois

What happens when you take the queen of country and float her pure, aching vocals over pungent slices of dark, ambiant Louisiana voodoo? You get Wrecking Ball, the glorious progeny of the artistic union of singer Emmylou Harris and guitarist-producer Daniel Lanois. Lanois's eerie arrangements put a whole new spin on Emmylou's music, but she has always been open to experiment and change, and sounded right at home in the unaccustomed settings.

Emmylou achieved early success singing with the late Gram Parsons. Though never a straight Country singer, she has been at the top of that profession for some years. She has recently changed direction again through the production genius of Daniel Lanois. Still very Country based the new music includes influences & styles from New Orleans to ambient rock. This picture was taken just after their highly successful Glasgow show. (My favourite show of '96). Check out Daniel's t-shirt.
